On the other hand, Germaine’s Luau is a backyard style luau located on a private beach in West Oahu and has a more casual, fun-filled atmosphere, perfect for families or friends looking to have a good time socializing, sipping cocktails, dancing, and enjoying each other’s company.

While it’s not a common occurrence, the Aloha State is home to a winter surprise that will take your breath away. ❄️Mauna Loa

Mauna Loa is a massive and active shield volcano located on the Big Island of Hawaii. With a height of 13,667 feet above sea level, the mountain’s total height is a staggering 55,700 feet from its base.

The Hawaiian name “Mauna Loa” means “Long Mountain,” and it lives up to its name, stretching for 74 miles across the island. Mauna Loa is one of the largest volcanoes in the world and among the most active volcanoes on Earth, with more than 30 eruptions since 1843.

Although there is occasional snow at the peak of Mauna Loa, it is not considered a desirable ski destination. This is in part due to the lack of a paved road to the top of the volcano, making it difficult for skiers and snowboarders to reach the summit. Furthermore, even if one were to reach the top, the slopes are not steep enough for these activities.

Haleakalā Crater, a dormant volcano located on Maui, is a true gem in the Pacific Ocean. This majestic peak stands tall at 10,023 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest peaks in the region.

However, what sets Haleakalā apart is that it soars to an impressive 28,000 feet, making it taller than Mount Everest and the third tallest mountain in the world.

The second-highest recorded snowfall in Hawaii was on Haleakala in 1978, when 8 inches fell on the mountain. The short answer is yes, Uber is available in Hawaii. However, the availability and reliability of the service may vary depending on the island you’re visiting.

Is there Uber in Oahu, Hawaii?

Yes, there is Uber in Oahu, Hawaii, and you can even book a ride from the Honolulu Airport, but it is not always the most reliable method of transportation on the island.

During rush hours and busy days, fares can be much higher. I learned this the hard way during my recent trip. Despite checking the fare estimate ahead of time and seeing a ride from the airport to my hotel estimated at around $25, I was shocked to find that it cost me $70 on the day of arrival.

Additionally, trying to book an Uber after a late evening activity on the North Shore proved to be a challenge. We got out of Polynesian Cultural Center at around 9 PM, and after trying to get an Uber for half an hour, no driver was accepting rides. It was getting late, and luckily we got a tour bus driver for Polynesian Cultural Center to give us a ride for $50.

In hindsight, we should have booked the transportation with the Polynesian Cultural Center Luau tickets instead of using Uber!

Is there Uber in Maui, Hawaii?

Just like in Oahu, you can easily find Uber in the populated areas of Maui, such as Lahaina and Kihei. However, Uber may not be as reliable in remote or poorly connected areas of the island. It’s also worth keeping in mind that everything in Maui tends to be expensive, and this includes Uber fares.

Is there Uber on Big Island, Hawaii?

Yes, Uber is available on the Big Island, and you can get around pretty easily. However, Uber is also not reliable in remote areas outside Kailua-Kona, Hilo or Waikoloa, so be careful if you stay out late. Make sure you have a ride back if you stay out late.

Is there Uber in Kauai, Hawaii?

Yes, Uber is available in Kauai, but just like other Hawaii islands, finding a ride back from more remote areas outside of popular tourist spots like Poipu and Princeville may prove to be challenging. Keep this in mind as you plan your travels in Kauai.

Plus, with rental car companies located at major airports and tourist areas, it’s easy to pick up your car as soon as you arrive.

Exploring the islands of Oahu and Maui on a moped can be a unique and adventurous way to get around. With the occasional rental car shortage in Hawaii, a moped rental can give you more flexibility to create your own itinerary and make impromptu stops at scenic spots.

However, it’s important to note that while a moped can be a fun option for shorter trips, it may not be suitable for longer distances. My personal experience of traveling from Waikiki Beach to the North Shore in Oahu on a scooter was not ideal and I would not recommend it for those seeking a comfortable journey.

In general, mopeds can be a great option if you’re staying and exploring in the Waikiki area on Oahu or Lahaina on Maui.”

Even if surfing isn’t your thing, the view from the beach and the drive out alone is too beautiful to miss. Overall, Hanalei Bay is an incredible beach with friendly and laid-back people, and the beautiful natural surroundings make it a must-see destination on Kauai.

One of the best things about Kalapaki Bay is its convenient location. It’s situated close to the airport, making it the perfect spot to start or end your trip. It’s also within easy reach of great shopping and hotels, so you won’t have to venture far to find everything you need.

The beach itself is well-kept and perfect for lounging, while the waters are relatively calm, making it a great spot for swimming. For those looking for a bit more adventure, the waves further out are great for surfing.

Kalapaki Bay truly offers something for everyone, regardless of age or experience level. You will see people of all ages and skill levels enjoying the waves, from beginners taking surf lessons to more experienced surfers catching the enormous wave. And if you love a good view, you can head up to the cliffs for a breathtaking vantage point of the entire bay.

While Anini Beach is known for its calm waters, it is important to note that there are strong rip currents beyond the shallower reef. These currents can be dangerous, especially for those who are not experienced swimmers. However, as long as you stay in the shallower areas and are mindful of your surroundings, you’ll be able to enjoy the beach safely.

4. Lydgate beach

Lydgate Beach is a little bit difficult to find, but a great spot for swimmers. Located near the town of Wailua, the beach features two lagoons that separate the calm pools from the rougher ocean waters.

It’s a perfect spot for a relaxing swim, and the facilities include restrooms, showers, a picnic area, and a playground nearby. The beach also has plenty of palm trees for shade.

Although it’s a bit tricky to find, if you take Leho Drive and continue onto Nalu Road, you’ll be able to see it without too much trouble. Overall, Lydgate Beach is an excellent option for those looking for a peaceful and serene swimming experience on Kauai.

5. Poipu Beach

Nestled on the south shore of Kauai, Poipu Beach offers a variety of experiences for visitors looking to soak up the sun and immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the island. Whether you’re a beginner swimmer, an experienced snorkeler, or a wildlife enthusiast, Poipu Beach has something to offer.

One of the standout features of Poipu Beach is the calm waters that make it perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The surrounding reef breaks up larger waves, making it a great spot for those who may be a little hesitant to venture into the ocean. And, with a lifeguard on duty, you can rest easy knowing that help is nearby if needed.

For those looking to catch a glimpse of native Hawaiian wildlife, Poipu Beach is an excellent spot to do so. Turtles and monk seals can be seen frequenting the beach in the early morning and at night. However, it’s important to remember to keep a safe distance and not touch the animals to ensure their safety and your own.

While Poipu Beach offers plenty of amenities and options for visitors, it can also attract larger crowds than other spots on the island. The beach is packed at around 9AM and as the day progresses, you will see an influx of beachgoers and visitors. To avoid the crowds, try visiting in the early morning or late afternoon to catch a spectacular sunrise or sunset.

6. Baby Beach

Located on the south side of the island, Baby Beach is situated near Allerton Garden, a popular filming location for Jurassic Park. The waves at Baby Beach are gentle and shallow, making it the perfect spot for kids or beginner swimmers.

The location of Baby Beach is ideal as it is right next to Koloa and Poipu, so visitors can enjoy a day in the waves before heading to the Beach House Restaurant or exploring the town of Poipu.

At Baby Beach, visitors can enjoy swimming, snorkeling and boogie boarding. The gentle waves make it a great spot for families with young children. It’s also a great place for beginner swimmers to practice their skills.

Best Beaches in Kauai for Snorkeling

Here are some of the best beaches in Kauai for snorkeling, where visitors can explore the underwater world and discover a variety of colorful fish and other sea creatures.

7. Ke’e Beach

Nestled deep within the lush Ha’ena State Park on the north shore of Kauai lies a protected reef that is a true gem among snorkeling spots on the island. Since it is protected, it also means that access is relatively difficult and requires advanced planning.

Visitors must make reservations, whether hiking, driving or taking the shuttle, and availability can fill up quickly, so it’s best to plan ahead and make reservations in advance. I recommend taking the shuttle as it is the most hassle-free option with the most availability.

The effort required to reach this beach is well worth it, as the picturesque white sand, excellent swimming, and world-class snorkeling here are truly unparalleled. The beach is located within the sprawling Na Pali coast and offers a unique experience, with tide pools and calm waters perfect for families with kids.

You can see a lot of turtles, fish, and even dolphins in Ke’e Beach, so if you’re looking for an adventure and are willing to put in the extra effort, Ke’e Beach is a destination that should not be missed. It’s a perfect spot for families, and a true paradise for snorkelers and divers.

8. Tunnels Beach Makua

Tunnels Beach, located in the picturesque town of Wainiha, is somewhat hidden among the lush mountains and greenery, so it’s important to keep an eye out for parked cars and drive slowly to find it. Limited parking is also an issue here, so I recommend arriving early to avoid having to walk a long distance.

The beach is large and offers a variety of options for visitors. On the left side, the waters are calm and perfect for swimming, while the right side of the beach offers some of the most incredible snorkeling on the island.

The beach gets its name from the dozens of underwater caverns and lava tubes that are found here, creating a unique snorkeling experience that is specific to this location. These tunnels provide perfect habitats for marine life, allowing them to rest or hide, making this a prime spot for sightings.

One of my all-time favorite sightings at Tunnels Beach was an octopus squishing itself into one of the smaller lava tubes. It’s not something you see every day! The diversity of marine life and the unique geology of the beach make Tunnels Beach a must-visit destination for any snorkeling enthusiast visiting Kauai.

9. Anahola Beach

Anahola Beach is a must-visit spot for snorkeling enthusiasts on the north side of Kauai. It boasts a gentle, reef-protected bay with peaceful waves that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The beach is equipped with amenities such as bathrooms, lifeguards, and picnic tables, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists.

In addition to snorkeling, you can also take a leisurely walk along the shoreline and explore the river mouth, where an array of sea shells from across the world can be found. The beach also offers picturesque views of Kalalea Mountain and shaded areas for picnic.

Kauai is known for its beautiful beaches, but some of the best ones are the hidden gems that are off the beaten path. Here are some of the best hidden beaches in Kauai, where you can escape the crowds and enjoy a more secluded and peaceful beach experience.

10. Glass Beach

Glass Beach is a small but dazzling attraction located next to the Port Allen harbor on the island of Kauai. This unique destination is a result of industrialization and nature working together to create a one-of-a-kind experience. Just a minute walk off the main road, you’ll find a small stretch of black sand blanketed with glittering sea glass and tide pools.

The abundance of sea glass on Glass Beach is a result of a previous dump that was located near the beach. But a word of caution, be sure to hike back up before it gets too dark as the trail can be even more challenging in the dark.

As I sat on the beach, I was the only person there, and it was the perfect place to escape the crowds and unwind. I didn’t even see anyone surfing during my time there, likely due to the rough conditions in the water. But for me, the tranquility and seclusion were well worth the effort it took to get there.
